Of course I’m talking about Potash Corp of Saskatchwan, Inc (NYSE: POT), the fertilizer and industrial feed company. It’s in the Basic Materials sector and Nonmetallic Mineral Mining Industry. It’s close enough related to MON which I have a position in that I won’t be trading any more Basic Materials companies for a little while to stay diversified better.
Anyway, I read about POT in Barron’s this weekend and have seen it mentioned elsewhere recently (hopefully it’s not overhyped already). Cramer even screamed about it last night. The premiums are big, even well out of the money (OTM). I charted it after reading the favorable fundamentals story and thought it would drop some before launching another big run north. It went up as high as $161.50 before tumbling all the way down to $152.86 a few hours later. That dip around 2:10 is when my order hit, when POT was trading at $153.38 I sold one April 135 naked put (PYPPG) at 5.10 and I received $499.25 after commissions.
With so much hype on POT already, I figured I should stay far OTM and actually thought it might dip even more than that. The fun part (as if every trade isn’t fun to me still) is that I hit the option at the high of the day. I used to have better luck (skill?) with that, but have faltered lately. I’d love to see that stick and for me to get my rhythm back with hitting those highs for selling options.
I’m not sure if its luck or skill but i hope you get it back on track!
i took a look a little bitt what you do,it o.k. i also write naked puts, only with diferent position and mattresses, regarding this pot trade,i notice that you pay a lot of commission to your broker,i think that would think of changing to other with more better commisions
wish you luck…….
You’re right, I do pay too much in commissions – 9.99 per trade + 0.75 per option contract. I used IB for a little while years ago, but a lot of their apps were blocked when I worked at AT&T. I don’t work there any more, but haven’t taken the time to move money elsewhere. I like TD Amtd’s site, charts, alerts, etc so I have just stuck with it. IB also charges for changing an order and I change my orders fairly often, so I save less than I could.
Thanks for reading. I hope you stick around. I always welcome the comments.
