5 Sources for the Best Pick Stocks

I’m always looking for new option ideas on the best stock picks I can find.  I don’t limit myself to just growth stocks or only value stocks, but try to keep an open mind to any worthwhile ideas for good stocks.  Since I work full time and trade when I can, I don’t visit a lot of different sources for my picks.  These are the ones I’ve used this year for most of my trades.

  1. Barron’s – Free daily stock picks on line in some articles.  I recommend subscribing to the weekly newspaper to get more than just what you can see for free.
  2. Investors Business Daily – Another newspaper that is full of daily stock picks.  IBD is published five days a week and is worth a short, free trial subscription at a minimum.  I subscribed for half a year before I admitted I didn’t have enough time to kick back and read that much that often.  I still pick on up at the newsstand occasionally.
  3. Smart Money magazine usually offers a few good ideas with various stock screens that can lead to good investment choices.  It’s only a monthly magazine, so you miss out on the real time ideas with this one.
  4. Mad Money – Jim Cramer is all about free stock picks on his show.  Barron’s ran a cover article about him a few months ago saying that his picks don’t beat the S&P 500.  He disagrees.  I personally find some good ideas from watching his show and reading the recaps when I miss the shows.  I don’t trade on most of his picks, but like all suggested trades I do my own research to see if his ideas match my trading model.  If they do, I pull the trigger.
  5. The Motley Fool – I’m not an avid reader of Motley Fool, but often come across their articles when doing research on picks from the sources one through four.  Their writers have an easy writing style to follow in most cases.  If I had more time in my day, Motley Fool might get more attention from me.

Once you make find your picks, you have to research them.  Here’s a good list for further research:

What else should I add to this list of sources for the best stock picks?

I remember Motley fool used be a favourite for many people when it started a few years ago and they have maintained their easy style for undertanding the basics. Its good for newbies.

Has anyone used any of the above for recommendations to base any decisions on any stock purchases?
